Welcome to Badger Dachshund Club

Membership Meetings normally take place at 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month, with the exception of August and December. Please note that BDC meetings are currently being done via Zoom. Please send your email contact information to our club secretary if you'd like to be connected with the link. Anyone that loves Dachshunds is invited to observe our meetings, and join the meet and greet that is generally 1/2 hour before official business starts. Meeting attendance makes the club stronger, so please take these opportunities to participate! Dachshund Loving Public is welcome to attend the meeting, all events, and join our club.

Fun FAQ's to Know

  • The Dachshund is twice as long as he tall and his head and neck are usually the same length.

  • Queen Victoria is known for being partial to the breed, saying “Nothing will turn a man’s home into a castle more quickly and effectively than a Dachshund.” She is credited for the breed’s popularity in Britain.

  • For their short legs, they can run very fast with a double extension gallop similar to a sight hound.

  • The very first Olympic mascot in the history of the Olympic Games was Waldie a dachshund for the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. The Olympic marathon route was designed to be in the shape of the dog that year. (Olympic.org)

  • The standard size can be almost triple the size of the mini. The mini is usually around 11 pounds and hunted small vermin while the larger standard hunted the badger. In Germany, they come in a third size, in between the miniature and the standard.

  • Tweenies (Between sizes) is the size of  Doxies that fall between the mini and standard size, roughly 12 to 18 pounds. As mentioned, in Europe this is another size allocation and there they are sometimes referred to as “rabbit Dachshund” because this was the size used to hunt rabbits and hares.

Our Club participates in many events throughout the year. We have provided a calendar to keep you up to date and Resource Links for your convenience.
